Perfect for if you’re a mobile DJ, entertainer, performer, portable church or lighting designer who works in different venues each night, the Mega QA Go is the latest new addition to ADJ’s range of battery-powered pars. It features five Quad LEDs which allow advanced color mixing that goes beyond the palette offered by regular RGB LEDs.
Anyone who has ever had to setup a venue up-lighting system knows how time consuming it can be to run out power cords to fixtures located all around a room. They also know how difficult and time-consuming it can then be to make sure that those cables look neat and don’t create a trip hazard for guests. ADJ’s Mega Go series of par fixtures are designed to eliminate this problem, making setting up a large up-lighting system take a matter of minutes instead of hours.
ADJ’s newest offering in the Mega Go series, the Mega QA Go, features an internal rechargeable lithium battery, which means that you can position these fixtures absolutely anywhere on a stage or within a venue, regardless of the availability of power sockets. The internal battery can power the fixture for 4 hours at full output, which can be extended to 5.5 hours using the Energy Saving Mode. Then, between events, just 4 hours connected to mains power is all that’s required to charge the battery back up to full capacity.
The Mega QA Go is fitted with IEC power input and output connections, which means that the power supplied to multiple fixtures can be daisy chained for charging or if you need to run the lights for longer than their maximum battery life. The power supply for up to 20 fixtures can be linked, significantly reducing the length of cables required.
Offering an impressive 50,000-hour lamp life and flicker-free operation, the Mega QA Go is powered by five ultra-bright 4-watt RGBA LEDs. Because the four colored elements – red, green, blue and amber – are integrated, the unit generates even color washes that aren’t compromised by the color shadow effect seen on units with independent LEDs for each color. The unit’s LED light-source, which emits minimal heat, also makes it ideal for illuminating performances, as an alternative to traditional pars which can seriously increase the on-stage temperature resulting in discomfort for performers.
With a beam angle of 40-degrees, the Mega QA Go is able to wash a relatively large area from a distance, while it is also capable of creating narrow columns of light when carrying out up-lighting duties standing directly against a wall. The cordless feature on the Mega QA Go is also very handy when placing the fixture inside truss to “truss warm.” Adding to its flexibility, the unit also offers 0-100% electronic dimming and variable speed strobing effects.
Despite its powerful internal battery, the Mega QA Go weighs just 4 lbs. (1.9kg.) making it easy to carry and transport. It is also very compact, measuring 5.5 x 9 x 10” (253 x 227 x 140mm), meaning that multiple fixtures can easily be cased together for convenient storage and transportation. You can use ADJ’s F4 Par Bag, for example, to carry and store four of the fixtures, while the F8 model will comfortably accommodate eight Mega QA Go units.
ADJ’s patented ‘sit-flat’ design means that the Mega QA Go can stand directly on the ground, or inside truss, thanks to the rubber feet on its back panel and the convenient side-positioning of its power and DMX input and output sockets. The unit is also fitted with an adjustable scissor yoke which can be used for conventional mounting to a truss or lighting stand as well as to create a variable-angle floor stand.
A choice of five operational modes make the Mega QA Go suitable for all kinds of applications, whether you want to be able to set it on a static color, run preprogrammed patterns, or make use of exacting control over its full feature set. Access to all the unit’s modes and settings is provided by an intuitive menu-based system accessed via a 4-digit LED display, together with four selection push-buttons, located on the side of the fixture.
For simple single-color up-lighting or stage-washing, the Static Color Mode allows easy access to 64 preset color macros. Alternatively, if you want to achieve a very specific color shade, the RGBA Dimmer Mode allows the level of each base color to be set manually, directly from the on-board LED display.
For multi-colored effects, the unit also comes pre-programmed with a wide selection of chase patterns. Auto Run Mode allows access to 16 dazzling Color Change patterns as well as a further 16 subtler Color Fade patterns. All of these can be set to run at any speed, and the unit also offers a Sound Active Mode which allows the triggering of the color changes by the beat of the music. For synchronization across multiple fixtures, all the pre-programmed pattern modes can be used in a Master/Slave configuration with any number of Mega QA Go fixtures linked together using XLR cables.
If you require remote control over your wash lighting during an event, the Mega QA Go offers several options. For simple wireless control, the unit is compatible with ADJ’s UC IR remote (sold separately) as well as the ADJ Airstream IR iOS app. This allows remote color selection, dimming and strobing, as well as access to pre-programmed chase patterns at the tap of a finger.
If you want to integrate the fixture into a larger synchronized lighting system, it can also be controlled using any standard DMX hardware or software controller. For this you have a choice of eight different channel modes (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 or 8) depending on the level of control you require and the number of channels you have available. The most basic 1-channel option simply allows selection between the unit’s 64 color macros, while each of the other modes adds functionality building up to the advanced 8-channel option. This allows full RGBA color mixing, master dimmer, and variable speed strobe control, as well as remote access to all the unit’s internal Color Change and Color Fade patterns.
