Trickle-Down Effects:American DJs Topaz & Whirl Are Cutting-Edge Effects Cut Down To DJ Size
LOS ANGELES -- American DJ is making two of todays hottest trends in club lighting accessible to DJs and small establishments with its new sound-activated Topaz and Whirl effects. The Topaz and Whirl each produce a stylish visual effect thats currently in vogue at todays big-name cutting-edge nightclubs, but theyre scaled down in size -- and price -- for the mobile DJ and neighborhood bar.
Modeled after the current wave of retro 60s-style effects, The Topaz creates multi-color, free-form psychedelic patterns that resemble flowing water. The Whirl features another popular lighting phenomenon -- a rotating gobo pattern, which can be interchanged with other gobos (sold separately), allowing clubs to spin out different themes, logos and other messages across the walls and dance floor.
Each of these sound-activated effects weighs only 6 lbs. and comes in a compact case for easy mobile use. Best of all, the Topaz and Whirl each sell for an amazingly low suggested retail price of $169.95.
"American DJ has always made it our mission to bring high-quality, cutting-edge lighting effects to DJs and small clubs," said Scott Davies, general manager of American DJ. "Back in the 90s, we were the first to introduce sound-activated effects and intelligent lighting systems that were priced within the working DJs budget. Now with the Topaz and Whirl, were offering affordable, scaled-down versions of two of the todays most popular lighting trends -- retro psychedelic images and rotating gobos."
Topaz
Great for groovy 60s theme parties, or anywhere a soothing, laid-back atmosphere is desired, the Topaz will take the crowd on a mind-blowing trip back in time with its free-flowing images of cascading water. The multi-color wavy psychedelic patterns are created by a beveled glass wheel that slowly rotates and projects onto a dichroic color dish that moves to the beat of the music.
"More establishments are featuring 60s and 70s theme nights, and the Topaz will instantly give any club the spacey, psychedelic look of that era," said Davies. "Another growing trend is for dance clubs to set aside special rooms or times of day for quiet relaxation, and the Topazs soothing water-like images are perfect for creating a mellow, laid-back mood, too. Its a very handy effect for DJs to have in their tool chest."
A sound-activated effect, the Topaz features a focusing lens and comes with a ZB-JCR/H5 150-watt 500-hour lamp. The user-friendly fixture includes a special easy-access door for changing the lamp and a hanging bracket for convenient mounting.
Whirl
Featuring a rotating gobo pattern and a rotating multi-dichroic color dish, the Whirl will have club patrons heads spinning with its whirlwind of movement and color. Outfitted with one replaceable gobo, the Whirl can be used with additional American DJ 26mm Roto-Gobo gobos (sold separately), which are available in different patterns, including holiday themes such as Halloween and Christmas. For even greater versatility, custom gobos can be created, featuring a clubs logo, drink specials or other message.
The Whirl includes a 3-way effects switch, which allows it to be operated in three different modes: rotating head, sound active head, or still head. The fixture comes with a focusing lens, hanging bracket, and easy access doors for changing the lamp and gobo. A ZB-EFR 150-watt lamp is included.
Both the Topaz and Whirl are as great-looking on the outside as the effects they create, thanks to their sleek, high-tech case design. Each fixture is a lightweight 6 lbs. and measures a compact 14.5"L x 5.5"W x 7.25"H. The Topaz and Whirl each sell for a suggested list price of $169.95.
