When one of the northern Netherlands' leading infrastructure companies celebrated its 80th anniversary with a two-day festival for business partners, the local community, and company staff, production specialists RD Licht en Geluid delivered a versatile lighting system built predominantly around ADJ fixtures. Combining powerful moving heads, dynamic effect lighting, and reliable signal distribution, the rig provided polished looks throughout two very different days of entertainment while proving equally effective in bright daylight and after dark.
The Elzinga Festival marked the 80th anniversary of Elzinga Groep, an umbrella organization comprising multiple businesses operating within the infrastructure sector across the northern Netherlands. Held at the company's headquarters, the celebration was divided into two days. The first welcomed business relations and featured an acoustic performance by Lars van Bokhoven, while the second opened the site to visitors before culminating in an evening staff celebration with a high-energy DJ set from Club Chaos followed by a live performance from The Hillbilly Moonshiners.
RD Licht en Geluid was responsible for providing the audio and lighting production for the event's main stage, with the company’s principal, Rutger Dekens, serving as Project Manager. To meet the varied demands of the performances, the company specified a lighting system centered around a combination of ADJ automated luminaires and static wash/strobe fixtures, all networked using an ADJ NET 8 DMX over Ethernet node.
The backbone of the rig was ADJ's new Focus CMY Compact automated luminaires. Eight fixtures were deployed in pairs across four angled overhead trusses, providing the primary aerial effects throughout the event.
Powered by a potent 400-Watt LED engine capable of delivering up to 14,500 lumens, the Focus CMY Compact combines beam, spot, and wash functionality within a compact fixture weighing less than 45 pounds. Its extensive feature set includes full CMY + CTO color mixing, dual GOBO wheels, dual rotating prisms, dual frost filters, motorized zoom from 3° to 52°, motorized focus, and built-in Aria X2 wireless connectivity, making it exceptionally versatile for a wide variety of productions.
"The Focus CMY Compact is our latest investment," explains Rutger. "We chose it because we were looking for a worthy replacement for our Focus Spot 4Z units, which have served us very well for a number of years. We were looking for a fixture that is very flexible and that is exactly what the Focus CMY Compact delivers. With its large zoom range, you can use it as a beam, spot, or wash and the CMY color mixing is a nice addition. We particularly love the speed of the zoom, CMY, and pan/tilt, allowing for effective bumping in light shows, which is awesome."
Interspersed between the Focus CMY Compact fixtures on the overhead trusses were eight Focus Flex L7 moving heads, providing vibrant color washes, beam effects, and creative pixel-mapped visuals. Featuring seven independently controllable 40-Watt RGBL LEDs, the Focus Flex L7 combines powerful output with outstanding creative flexibility. Its motorized zoom allows smooth transitions between wide wash coverage and tight beam effects, while the addition of a lime LED enhances brightness, white light quality, and overall color mixing performance.
"When we made the investment in the Focus Flex L7, we were looking for a versatile beam wash," comments Rutger. "We can use this fixture for both smaller and larger events. Additionally, it features fast pan/tilt and zoom, yet remains very compact and lightweight. Furthermore, the pixel mapping is a nice addition."
Mounted on the rear of each truss were four ADJ Jolt Panel FXIP fixtures, adding impactful eye-candy effects alongside powerful strobe and color wash capabilities. Combining 800 RGB SMD LEDs with 48 centrally positioned white LEDs, this visual powerhouse is capable of delivering vibrant color effects, intense strobe hits, and striking animated visuals from a single fixture.
"The Jolt Panel FXIP is a fixture that just works really well," enthuses Rutger. "I personally really like the Jolt because you can still see the light very well during the day as eye candy, which was important for the Elzinga Festival as a lot of the event took place during the day."
Reflecting on his company’s investment in ADJ equipment, Rutger emphasizes that dependable performance and long-term value are key priorities for RD Licht en Geluid: "For our entire inventory, we look for affordable yet reliable products; that is why we have chosen ADJ for lighting.
