A versatile selection of ADJ lighting and LED video products helped transform the stage at Coyote Fest 2026, the annual end-of-year student festival at California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB). The production combined ADJ Focus Profile automated luminaires, VS3IP LED video panels, and Entour Venue atmospheric generators to create dramatically different looks for performances by Korean-American hip hop and alternative pop artist Bachyard Ghost, singer and rapper Rico Nasty, and singer-songwriter Danny Lux. Held on the university's athletics field, the festival also featured carnival rides, food trucks, games, and activities, providing an unforgettable celebration for students.
Organized by Associated Students Inc. CSUSB, the university's student government, the event's audio, video, and lighting production was entrusted to Beaumont, California-based Props AV. Having previously delivered production for Coyote Fest as well as the university's high-energy Peak 2026 event earlier in the year, the Props AV team once again relied on an impressive selection of ADJ equipment to create a production capable of adapting to the contrasting styles of the evening's performers. Production Manager Tommy Frisch led the project once again, building on the successful relationship established with Associated Students Inc. CSUSB.
"Because the organizers were so happy with what we did for Peak 2026, we didn't really have much of a brief for this one, they just told us to do our thing, have fun and make it look good!" states Tommy. "But the three artists played very different genres, so we needed a very versatile setup. Video was a key part of that, allowing us to set different scenes, but we also needed a lighting rig that could be used to generate very different looks for the full on hip hop of Rico Nasty and the far more laidback vibe of Danny Lux."
The visual centerpiece of the stage was a large LED video backdrop constructed from ADJ's VS3IP LED panels. Featuring a 3.84mm pixel pitch, high 4,500 NIT brightness, and IP-rated construction for temporary outdoor use, the VS3IP panels provided crisp, vibrant imagery throughout the festival while standing up to the demands of an outdoor environment.
"I wanted to do a full back wall of video, but the weight restriction on the SL 260 trailer stage meant that we needed to cut off a couple of columns of panels," explains Tommy. "So, instead of just making the screen narrower, I figured it would look cool to still fill the rear of the stage, but with small gaps. We did a 9 wide by 5 tall central screen (which is 16 x 9 aspect ratio) and then put up 2 wide by 5 tall wings on each side, with a little gap from the main screen. The VS3IP is a real workhorse for us; it's incredibly bright – I'm not sure we've ever run them at full output – and is IP-rated for outdoor events like this."
Complementing the video display was a versatile lighting rig built around twelve ADJ Focus Profile automated luminaires, with four fixtures mounted on each of the three overhead trusses. Powered by a 400W LED engine producing up to 20,000 lumens, the Focus Profile combines exceptional brightness with an extensive feature set including framing shutters, CMY color mixing, dual GOBO wheels, animation wheel, motorized zoom, iris, prisms, frost, and precision optics, making it equally effective for aerial beam effects and textured stage illumination.
"My LD, Richard, used the Focus Profiles zoomed in all the way for most of the show, shooting tight beams out over the crowd with fast movements," comments Tommy. "But then for Danny Lux's set at the end he opened them up for GOBO projections on the stage to create some nice atmospheric texture with richer colors and slower movements. That's the great thing about those fixtures, they are just really flexible and bright enough for doing both tight beams that really throw well and wider intricate GOBO projections."
To maximize the impact of the lighting system, the production also incorporated two ADJ Entour Venue atmospheric generators positioned at either side of the stage. Combining the output of a traditional fog machine with the fine dispersion of a hazer, the compact 1,500W units generated consistent atmospheric haze that enhanced the visibility of the lighting effects across both the stage and audience area.
"I usually default to four hazers when I'm outside," explains Tommy, "just so I can have a little more even spread, but we only had two available for this show. However, the Entour Venues actually performed better than I expected outdoors and kept up even with the wind. As you can see from the photos, we had a nice haze not only filling the stage but out over the crowd."
The ADJ fixtures were complemented by 20 Proteus Rayzor 760 wash-zoom luminaires from sister company Elation Professional, giving the Props AV team a highly capable lighting system that could seamlessly transition between the aggressive energy of Rico Nasty's performance, the alternative style of Bachyard Ghost, and the more intimate atmosphere of Danny Lux's closing set.
By combining the versatility of the Focus Profile, the visual impact of the VS3IP LED video panels, and the atmospheric enhancement of the Entour Venue hazers, Props AV once again delivered a memorable production for California State University, demonstrating how ADJ solutions continue to provide the flexibility, reliability, and performance required for today's diverse live events.
