At the heart of ADJ’s success over the company’s 35+ year history has always been its people. This dedicated and close-knit community of skilled, experienced and passion women and men all share the common goal of designing, manufacturing, selling, and supporting the best mid-market entertainment lighting, LED video, and atmospheric effects equipment possible. Each installment in this series of short interviews shines a spotlight on one individual from the team, giving an insight into who they are, what they do, and how they care for ADJ customers on a daily basis. This time it’s the turn of a familiar face, Mike Turner.
How long have you been a part of the ADJ team?
Since January of 2017.
What is your job title?
My day-to-day role is Central US Sales Manager, however some readers may recognize me as the presenter of ADJ’s informational product features videos.
What is your job function that allows you to show you care for our customers?
Living in Texas, the heart of my territory, allows me to be very hands on with providing demos for our dealers and even on-site demos for end users. I get to show up in my truck and unload as many lights as possible, plug them in, and have genuine conversations about our products and truly show how we meet the needs of our users. I also try to go the extra mile by making myself available 24/7 to our dealers and the users of our products. I learned long ago that much of our gear is used on nights and weekends, so it’s important to me to be there when our customers need me most.
What do you like most about your job?
Let’s face it, I’m a lighting nerd. And I love it! I feel extremely lucky to work with people who share my same passion for this part of the entertainment industry. I am surrounded by all the things I personally love while working… lights, stages, audio gear, cool venues… I wouldn’t change it for the world!
What hobbies / interests do you have outside work?
I love camping. We like to go to the Guadalupe River and explore via Kayak, and I still pluck at the ol’ six string every now and then. I also like to work with lighting and program shows when I get the chance.
What is something you’ve done or accomplished that people might not know about you?
I used to be the guitar player for a touring rock band in the early 2000s and got to work with a major label producer who got our single on KROQ! Even though we never made it big, I got to start my entertainment career on stage, which ultimately led to my career on the other side of the stage.
