Mobile Beat Las Vegas Show Recap: One of the long-standing dates on the ADJ calendar is the annual Mobile Beat trade show that takes place in Las Vegas each spring. Having moved venue a few years ago, the show’s format was also re-focused, which has led recently to a resurgence in Mobile Beat’s popularity. Over 1000 mobile DJs from across the United States – and many other countries around the world – attended the 2017 show last month, which once again took place at the iconic Tropicana hotel right in the heart of the Las Vegas action. As always, ADJ was heavily involved with the show. We hosted a large booth, right at the entrance to the expo floor, featuring equipment demonstrations, live learning sessions, gear giveaways, and the official launch of a brand new product.

Expanding ADJ’s Startec series of extremely affordable – but also reliable and feature-packed –  lighting fixtures, the new Stinger Spot was officially unveiled at the show. Powered by a 10-Watt white LED that is paired with advanced optics, this compact moving head packs a real punch, especially considering its extremely low price tag of $199. It also offers a wide variety of advanced features including separate color and GOBO wheels, 16-bit pan and tilt, 0 – 100% dimming, variable speed strobing, and three operational modes (DMX, Sound Active and Internal Show). It caught the eye of many DJs at the show who were impressed by its compact and light-weight casing, bright output, and – of course – its affordable price.

Other products on display that particularly attracted the attention of Mobile Beat visitors included the full Vizi range of professional-caliber moving heads – which includes spot, wash, beam, and hybrid fixtures – that are ideal for mobile DJs looking to expand their businesses into event production. Likewise, many visitors were interested to find out more about the ADJ AV6X and AV3 LED video panels, with a view to use them for event production and/or music video playback as part of their DJ services.

Many DJs were also keen to see ADJ’s growing collection of Startec multi-effect fixtures. The new Boom Box FX1 and Boom Box FX2 were particular favorites, with their all-in-one combination of laser, wash, and beam effects. Each boasting four separate effects, in one easy to carry and setup fixture, they provide mobile DJs with a complete lightshow for a small room and can be combined in multiples to fill larger spaces with movement and color.

American Audio products were also on display, including our new range of VPS Series vocal microphones that offer a winning combination of audio clarity, build quality, and affordability that make them perfect for use by mobile DJs for making important announcements and introductions. The new WU-419V UHF wireless microphone system – which is now shipping – also proved very popular. Featuring four independent handheld vocal mics, paired with a single compact 1U receiver unit, it is perfect for DJs providing amplification for wedding toasts as well as for karaoke and countless other uses. Also on display were American Audio’s new headphones, the BL-40 and BL-60. DJs were able to test the great sound quality of these pro headphones at the ADJ booth.

In addition to showcasing the latest ADJ and American Audio equipment, we also used our booth at the show to host a series of educational Live Learning sessions. Eric Wilson gave a great presentation on one of ADJ’s innovative new products ‘How to utilize the 3D Vision – add more eye candy to your event’. Dane Holman then got technical with his session ‘How much CPU do you need?’, discussing the type of computers DJs need to run lighting software such as Grand VJ, myDMX 3.0, and Capture Atlas Solo. Finally, ADJ’s own Marco Oceguera gave an informative demonstration of ‘How to control your lightshow from your iPad using Airstream DMX Bridge & Airstream WIFI Pack.

Another significant attraction to the ADJ booth at Mobile Beat 2017 was our big prize draw. This ran across both days the expo floor was open and generated a great response from the DJs who attended the show. On day one we asked visitors to post a photo of themselves on Twitter using the hashtag #ADJMBLV21. These were then displayed on a large screen positioned at the back of the booth constructed from ADJ AV3 LED video panels. Then, when visitors pointed themselves out up on the screen to one of the ADJ team, we gave them a free Focus Series T-shirt.

On the second day, we asked DJs to come back to the booth wearing their new tee and give us a business card to enter our prize draw. Then, at 3:30, with an eager crowd of DJs surrounding the stand, we selected three cards at random to determine our lucky winners. They were Brian Berry from Washington, PA, who walked away with an ADJ Airstream Bridge; Sean Pasin from Mountain View, California, who won a Startec Boom Box FX1; and Hallard Jackson III from Gillette, WY, who is now the proud owner of a pair of American Audio BL-60 headphones.

Once again, Mobile Beat was a big success for ADJ. Our booth was busy throughout the show – especially for the Live Learning sessions and prize drawing – and we received lots of interest in the wide variety of new products on display. On a personal note, it was my Birthday on the final day of the show and my colleagues at ADJ led the DJs gathered around our stand in rendition of ‘Happy Birthday’ to mark the occasion. So, I’d like to thank all of them, and all the DJs who were there, for making Mobile Beat 2017 such a great show, both for myself and for ADJ.
