The original DP-415 dimmer pack has been a staple of the ADJ range for more than a decade. Offering a cost effective DMX dimming solution for use with PAR cans, pin spots and other stage lighting fixtures, it has proved to be a reliable workhorse for mobile entertainers and performers as well as for fixed installations in a wide variety of performance spaces. The new DP-415R retains the concept of the original – a low-cost, compact and flexible dimmer – but improves on it with new features and functions that make it even more versatile and easy to use.
The DP-415R is a four-channel dimmer pack that also doubles up as a switch pack, which means that it can not only be used to control incandescent-lamp-based lighting such as par cans but it can also be used to remotely switch on and off effect lights and other standalone equipment. What’s more, as an improvement to the original version, it is possible to alter the dimming/switching functionality for each channel individually, which means that a single unit can be used simultaneously as a dimmer for some channels and switcher for others.
Eight output sockets (two for each channel), are fitted to the sides of the unit, which means that it can be used to control up to eight individual fixtures. A total load of 15A (1,800W) is supported, with a maximum of 5A (600W) for each individual channel. The US version has 3-prong Edison sockets for output, while the European version features IEC outlet sockets.
A trailing cord provides power to the DP-415R, which is connected to an on/off rocker switch. Status LEDs on the front of the unit display the current dimming level for each of the output channels, while an additional LED indicator is also incorporated to show when a DMX signal is detected.
DMX input and output is via standard 3-pin XLR sockets, while a 4-character LED menu screen with four corresponding control buttons allows for easy DMX addressing and mode selection (an improvement from DIP switches on the original model). The new unit also supports the RDM (Remote Device Management) protocol that allows compatible DMX control systems to set a fixture’s DMX address remotely.
In addition to use as a DMX-controlled dimmer/switch pack, the DP-415R can also operate as a standalone chaser. It is pre-programmed with 16 internal chase patterns, which can each be set to run at a user selected speed of between (approximately) one step every 30 seconds and one step every 1/10th of a second.
The unit is fitted with a flexible reversible hanging bracket which can be used to mount the DP-415R in a variety of different ways. It can be attached directly to a lighting T-bar, fitted to a clamp for truss-hanging or mounted directly to a wall.
With measurements of 10.25” x 8.25” x 3” / 260 x 209 x 76mm (L x W x H) and a weight of 6 lbs. / 2.72 kgs, the DP-415R is easily portable and takes up minimal storage and transportation space. Its compact design and flexible mounting bracket also means that it is unobtrusive when mounted on a truss or tripod, which allows for short cable runs compared to larger dimming systems that need to remain on the ground.
Weather you’re a mobile entertainer looking for a flexible dimming/switching solution to add into your rig or an installer specifying and supplying lighting systems for leisure venues or houses of worship, the DP-415R is sure to meet your requirements. It is a versatile, reliable and affordable solution for dimming or switching lighting that is both compact and powerful.
The original DP-415 is an established ADJ classic and, now, the updated DP-415R is set to continue its legacy for many more years to come.
